Looking ahead to 2022 - and my free gift to you this Christmas🌲
The one thing GREAT leaders don't forget!
In his Boundaries for Leaders book, Dr. Henry Cloud makes this statement, “As a leadership coach, one of the questions I always ask myself is, 'Does this leader lead in a way that is compatible with humans?'”
Every time I read this question, I laugh at how simple, yet profound it is.
In the whirlwind leadership, it’s easy for leaders to forget that they are leading fellow people -- human beings with hopes and dreams, griefs and struggles.
When the holiday season isn't so bright
As we draw near to Christmas, I'm reminded that not all of us approach the holiday season in the same way.
For some people, the holiday season is a light at the end of a year-long tunnel that they look forward to with great anticipation. Friends and family --along with turkey and mistletoe "make the season's bright" -- as the old carol says.
For others, the light the holidays bring may be more like the light of an oncoming train that's about to hit.
One moment can forever change a life.
What are you trading your life for? 📆
How passionate are you about what you do for a living? Are you struggling with your current role or position within your organization?
Statistically speaking, you are not alone.
Many people are unhappy with their current employment. A staggering statistic from Monster.com indicates that as many as 95% of workers are now considering changing their jobs.
Three Simple Gratitude Practices to Begin Immediately
Has your GQ (Gratitude Quotient - I just made this up, but I like it) dropped this past year? If so, you're not alone. Lately, it just seems like it's much easier for me to focus on all that's NOT going well in the world than what is.
The truth is that focusing on the negative stuff in life does come more naturally for most of us, which is why, when living in a world that's becoming increasingly toxic and polarized, we need to be more intentional than ever to be grateful. This is vitally important for us and for those that we touch through our sphere of influence.
Is it time for an upgrade?
After multiple setbacks and obstacles, SHE persevered in her dream.
Earlier this week I wrote to you about the two words that keep people from reaching their potential. Those two words are, of course, self-esteem.
Self-esteem is an overall subjective sense of personal worth or value -- and having healthy self-esteem can’t be underestimated.
In other words, your self-esteem matters.
Two words that keep you from reaching your potential
How to avoid burnout when working virtually
The world sure has changed in the past two years -- and through it all, you've undoubtedly learned a lot about yourself.
You've probably also learned a lot about the people that you've worked alongside of as well! Maybe those are even the people who live inside of your house??
Statistically speaking, many of us are working from home (or have worked remotely in the not too distant past).
"Your first step is your most important step..."
Let’s define incredible... 😲
The definition of Incredible is this -- extraordinary, impossible to believe.
Incredibly, we are just one month away from one of the most exciting events of the year -- our annual Live2Lead Conference! This is our eighth year hosting this event -- and just like last year, we're bringing it to the comfort of your own home (or office).
If you don't like where you're going, change!
Have you ever felt stuck?
According to vocabulary.com, the word “stuck” describes something frozen or fixed in one place and can't be moved.
"Stuck" is that feeling you get when you're unable to gain traction. It's a paralysis of progress -- and many of us experience it from time to time. And this feeling keeps us from developing into our full potential, robs us of opportunities, and steals our joy.
I've said it before -- and I'll repeat it—stuck stinks.
The one thing that 99% of “failures” and “successful” people have in common...
Have you had a good week? Does life feel extra challenging lately?
You are not alone -- especially if you are trying to work hard, juggle your career and home life, invest in your personal growth, serve those around you, and live a life that makes a positive impact within your sphere of influence.
Doing the right thing (and making positive change) is hard work. And hard work is just that -- it's HARD.
What happens when life gets hard?
Are anxiety and fear holding you back?
Are anxiety and fear holding you back from reaching your true potential? They may be — more than you think!
Fear is something I've struggled with my whole life. It has robbed me of much joy and many opportunities. But fear doesn't have to get the last word -- even if it's in our wiring.
Did you know that the average person has between 12,000 and 60,000 thoughts per day — and of those thoughts, 80% are negative — and 95% of those are repetitive?
Why is that?
You can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family...and why that matters
Talk to me about your family.
What was life like for you as a kid? What were your parents like? What kind of environment did they create for your family? How did communication work? How were decisions made? What did family life center around?
The answers to these questions may have had more of an impact on you than you think!
The one factor constantly impacting your attitude.
A gardener will tell you that it takes well-fertilized (and watered) soil to grow great crops.
An artist will describe how great art often springs from stimulating and creative surroundings.
A principal will attest to how positive learning environments tend to develop great students.
Now, consider your environment for a moment.
Is your dream worth it!?
I have always loved this quote. I love it more now than ever. But, unfortunately, we live in a culture where there is an increasing expectation of experiencing success without putting in the work. And well -- that just doesn't work. It never has, and it never will.
We will never experience success apart from putting in the work because the work, the grit, and the effort itself are non-negotiable ingredients of success.
I love to make homemade deep-dish pizza from time to time. My pizza is incredible if I do say so myself. But imagine if I invited you over to my house to treat you to some of my amazing deep-dish pizza, and I decided to make it without mozzarella cheese. Anybody I know who loves excellent pizza knows that mozzarella cheese is a non-negotiable and necessary ingredient. You might eat it with a smile on your face, but on the inside, you would be saying to yourself, "What is Bill thinking? This isn't deep-dish pizza. He forgot the cheese!" And you would be right.
